The Wine Pilot Ken Gargett

"The vines for this single vineyard Shiraz were planted in 1978. The wine sees ten months in French oak barrels. The colour is a deep red/garnet. The aromas include warm earth notes, red fruits, some slightly rustic touches, leather, animal skins and mushrooms. A hint of black fruits lurking in the background. The palate lifts and we have a core of sweet cherries. Supple texture, fine balance, good focus, fine if ever-so-slightly firm tannins and decent length. Drink this over the next four to seven years."
"Char and dusty earth notes mingle with red and blackberries on the nose. It flows beautifully through the palate, there's a nice line of oak that supports the fruit and frames the wine."
Appearance: Deep red with garnet hues.
Nose: Dark berry fruits and floral notes spiced with hints of peppercorn, red licorice strap and toasty oak influences.
Palate: A full-bodied wine, offering ample depth with plenty of ripe forest fruits, redcurrants and spice. The jubey fruit and approachable tannins combine to produce a generous wine with a supple structure and a lovely persistence of flavour.
