Estate Shiraz vertical tasting: 2019, 2015 and 2011 (3 bottle mix pack)
Reviews & Notes
2019 UMAMU Estate Shiraz
‘It’s got a richness that’s developing, really excited to see where that goes in the next few years. It’s got some beautiful red fruits now, but I think it’s slowly starting to develop into darker fruits. A really exciting stage for such a young wine." UMAMU
This wine is looking sharp and pretty much ready for release. Earlier than expected so we have not actually submitted the wine for any reviews yet! We shall update once we have some to share. But the team are incredibly pleased with it, pretty impressive are the words going round so we hope you are enticed to try this vertical pack.
2015 UMAMU Estate Shiraz
"This wine’s sitting perfectly in its sweet spot. Beautiful aniseed coming through there too and some really good length. It’s a beautiful temperature for drinking Shiraz out in the vineyard today." UMAMU
This is the first and only year so far we have produced our Margaret River Shiraz in our Red Seal Hallmark collection.
Produced from single small block vines planted in 1978 with 14 months in French barrels.

"Bright crimson hue; it is the first time shiraz has been included in its red seal collection. The bouquet is wondrously complex, with a collection of exotic spices establishing its quality before it is tasted, and when that occurs it simply validates the promise of the bouquet. While there is a lot of oak on the mid-palate in particular, it breaks free on the long finish. Drink till 2035." — James Halliday
"Deepish, bright red colour with a tint of purple. The bouquet is fresh and berry-like, plummy and very ripe, despite a trace of pepper, the palate medium to full-bodied and sweet-fruited, with hints of licorice and aniseed as well as iodine. There's a little jamminess, the tannins slightly clunky, adding some chew to the finish and aftertaste. Drink till 2031." — Huon Hooke
2011 UMAMU Estate Shiraz
"It’s a gorgeous palate, still really lovely for its age. It’s got nice dark fruits in the background and great length that keeps coming. Stunning wine and it’s still drinking so fresh. That’s something we find really special about UMAMU wines – they do have such great length and age." UMAMU

90 points The Wine Advocate Robert Parker, Joe Czerwinski
"Good crimson-purple; the wine seems to be a little more oaky than the '10, but not to the point of being overshadowed by it; there is abundant plum and cherry fruit on the bouquet and generous, fleshy palate, where soft but persistent tannins also come into play. There is every reason to suppose the wine will quite quickly come into balance.." — James Halliday
"Vanilla, cinnamon and mixed berries mingle on the nose of the 2011 Shiraz. This medium to full-bodied red is mouthwateringly juicy, with smooth, silky tannins that give shape to the smooth combination of fruit, earth and oaky spice. Drink it over the next several years."
